Cabled Cotswold Hat

Learn basic cable stitch while knitting this classic hat with our own Cotswold yarn. Super warm hat makes a great gift for anyone! Must be able to knit and purl and knit in the round.

There is homework with this class.  Participants should bring a 16” 5.5 mm circular needle.

Tidal Ripples Hat

Fair Isle is a colour knitting tradition that uses at most two colours for any row. Once you’ve mastered a few techniques, you can play with colour and create a wide range of creative items.

Why not join us for a fun workshop? This design is inspired by the retreating tides of the Bay of Fundy. Learn these basic techniques while creating a hat:

  • Holding 2 yarn colours
  • Kniting without tangling yarns
  • Working corrugated ribbing
  • Stranding pattern colours
  • Recognizing the colour principles that make Fair Isle designs effective

Beginner Needlefelting

Create your own unique tapestry using the traditional technique of needle felting. Bring a photo of your favourite landscape or work from provided samples. Needle felting experience is not necessary but would be considered an asset.

Knitting Sweaters that Fit

Is there a sweater mishap in your past?? Are you knitting shawls only because the fit is so forgiving?? Do you yearn for the coziness of a sweater but are nervous about the vagaries of pattern measurements?? Are you intimidated by gauge specifications??

If you answered yes to any, or all, of these questions why not join us and we’ll spend a morning exploring common knitting questions? Knitting is one of the great pleasures of life and making things that fit is particularly rewarding.

In this workshop we’ll consider the basic drop shoulder sweater shape and explore the following topics:

  • Understanding finished measurements
  • Approaches to swatching
  • Your tension vs the pattern gauge
  • Basic calculations – will it go around me comfortably?
  • Getting the length of sleeves to come out ok
  • Rules of thumb for yarn amounts

Anatomy of a Stitch

Understanding how knitted fabric goes together is a huge help for ‘Reading your Knitting’. It is the first step to finding and fixing the ‘whoops’ we all make.

In this workshop we’ll consider the basic knit stitch from several perspectives:

  • Right side, left side
  • Front, back
  • Upside down, right side up
  • Stitch position on the needle
  • Direction of the yarn
  • Slipping, twisting and more

We will not be making a project; We are going to play with a tubular swatch. We are free to experiment and learn. What could be better than simply playing?

Kitchen Witch

Create your own Kitchen Witch, choice of free standing, or hanging, by participating in this fun filled Needle Felting Tutorial. Learn how to make a small pose-able witch doll, broom, and pumpkin from beautifully dyed wool.

Wet Felted Fairy Tale Pumpkin

  • Sunday, Sept 29 10-3 and Sunday Oct 6 10-3.
  • $80 plus HST, includes all materials

Using a complex resist, you will create your own fantasy, fairy tale pumpkin. It takes a fair bit of time, but so worth the effort.  This workshop runs for 2 sessions.  We will be working with merino roving, cheesecloth and various other fibres to create this unique addition to your fall décor!

Please bring along an old towel, a small bucket or large bowl, 10 or more plastic grocery bags, a pair of scissors and a pen.  Bring your lunch as well!

Pease note: This is NOT a beginner workshop.  Some wet felting experience using a resist is highly recommended.

Next Steps in Weaving

Next Steps in Weaving is designed to help you get the most out of you rigid heddle loom. We will cover technical aspects of weaving… choosing the right reed, yarn, colour theory, pick up sticks and more. Tammy will also share tips on all aspects of warping and weaving and answer your questions. Then it’s time to put it all together as you plan and warp your own project!

Participants must provide their own loom and be comfortable warping. If extra reeds or other equipment will be needed these should be ordered at time of registration.

Learn How to Weave on a Rigid Heddle Loom

  • with Liz and Daniel Nell
  • Saturday, October 5th from 10am - 3pm
  • $70 plus HST includes all materials and use of a rigid heddle loom for the class.

The rigid heddle loom is very lightweight, portable and easy to use.
In this class you will learn to warp the loom, weave a sampler and basic finishing techniques. There will be a maximum of 6 students in the class with 2 instructors.
Please bring your lunch.

Crochet a Granny Square Throw

Join Tasha and learn how to crochet a granny square!  Learn how to expand the granny square into a throw using the amazing colours of Noro yarn.

Participants will need to bring a 6mm crochet hook.

Sheep Skin Slipper Knit-a-Long

Winter is coming and everyone needs a pair of cozy slippers! Over three Tuesday evenings Tasha will teach you everything you need to know to complete a pair of adult slippers. Please bring a 3.-3.5mm crochet hook and 5.5 dpns or 5.5mm 32” circular needles.

Participants should be comfortable knitting and purling, using dpns or magic loop and basic crochet.

Skill level: Advanced Beginner
